We need Irish support!

By admin St. Paddy's Day Parade The Hibernian Blog • January 12, 2017

This is the official GoFundMe fundraising drive for the March 18, 2017 Salt Lake City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the Hibernian Society’s flagship event of the year. Originally self-funded, rising costs over the years have created an opportunity to extend an invitation to the community to help support the parade and the Hibernian Society.  Please help by giving any dollar amount you can.  All proceeds go to planning and producing Salt Lake’s long standing tradition of shamrock painted streets, rich Irish culture, local Irish musicians and dancers.

Please consider donating to keep this tradition going for 2017 and more to come.
The theme of this year’s parade is “A Hundred Thousand Welcomes in America”.  In the Irish language, the phrase Céad Míle Fáilte translates into “A hundred thousand welcomes”. Our Irish ancestors entered this country in search of greater opportunities. For the Irish immigrant who anchored in New York Harbor in the first decades of the twentieth century, no longer were prejudice, hatred and aggression there to reject them. In their place, was a new Irish-American identity, confident, proud, and irrepressible, ready to be assumed by the next newcomer to step down from the deck of an Irish steamship. Today it’s impossible to imagine America without the contributions of Irish-Americans. We are encouraging entrants to reflect on the struggles of their own ancestors upon entry into America and what it means to be Irish in America.

Thank you for your support,
